Instructions for Copying Theme & Plugins Setting

YOU CAN COPY ALMOST ANYTHING!

*WARNING: the instruction below only applies to WordPress 2.0-2.3. I’ll update the “copy” for WordPress 2.7x soon…

Here’s what you should do after logging in (using the “User Login” widget?) with the USERNAME = minttree and PASSWORD = copy :

*Note: You should have activated ALL of the “working” plugins to be able to copy their setting configurations (”working” plugins = plugins that do NOT throw an error and should be deactivated. The not working plugins are: MintAds and MyAvatar plugin - throw error in I.E.).

COPYING THE WORDPRESS SPECIAL PAGES:

  • Go to “Manage => Pages“, click the “Edit” link to view the following pages to copy the respective ‘Page Template‘ (the ‘Page Template’ are drop-down box on the right):
  1. TagCloud: you need to write/create a new page with the ‘Page Slug’ called “tagcloud” and select the ‘Page Template’ from the drop-down box called “TagCloud”.
  2. Archives: you need to write/create a new page with the ‘Page Slug’ called “archives” and select the ‘Page Template’ from the drop-down box called “Archives”.
  • Again, go to “Manage => Pages“, click the “Edit” link and, then, switch from “Visual” editing mode to “Code” editing mode to view the code on these pages to copy:
  1. Contact: you need to enter in this token <!– ddfm1 –> (like the one you’ll see in the “Code” editing mode) in the “Code” editing mode of your “Write => Page” interface to create a new Contact page with this exact ‘Page Slug’ called “contact” or “contacts”. (No ‘Page Template’ needed).
  2. SiteMap: you need to enter in this token <!– ddsitemapgen –> (like the one you’ll see in the “Code” editing mode) in the “Code” editing mode of your “Write => Page” interface to create a new SiteMap page with this exact ‘Page Slug’ called “sitemap”. (No ‘Page Template’ needed).

COPYING THE WORDPRESS OPTIONS SETTING:

  • Go to “Options => Reading“, scroll all the way down to the bottom and check the box for “WordPress should compress articles (gzip) if browsers ask for them“. (This option will help speed up WordPress by 1/2 - 1 second =).
  • Go to “Options => Discussion” and copy all the setting on that page. (Your Math Comment Spam plugin should have been activated).
  • Go to “Options => Permalink” and copy all the setting on that page if you want. (The “-%post_id%” token is optional for IDentification purpose).

COPYING THE WIDGETS SETTING:

  • Go to “Presentation => Widgets” and, for each widget, click to view the setting of each widget to copy (especially the Samsarin PHP widgets, which store the PHP codes for maximal SEO effect => e.g. add rel=”nofollow” attribute to all unrelated links when view in single post/page/etc).
  • For the custom bullets design of the widgets to take effect, the Samsarin PHP widgets must be in the following order:

Widget Name = Samsarin PHP #__

  1. Samsarin PHP 1: must be used as the “Categories” widget.
  2. Samsarin PHP 2: must be used as the “Archives” widget.
  3. Samsarin PHP 3: must be used as the “Recent Posts” widget.

*For the “Get Recent Coments” widget, the custom bullets design is already accounted for. However, you’ll NEED to go to “Options => Recent Comments” and copy all the setting there for the widget to display exactly like the “Recent Comments” widget on this site.

COPYING THE SETTING OF IMPORTANT PLUGINS:

  • Go to “Manage => Page Links” and choose which ‘WordPress Pages‘ to appear in the Header Menu.
  • Go to “Plugins => Robots Meta” and copy all the setting on that page. (Currently, not allowed).
  • Go to “Ratings => Ratings Options” and copy ALL the setting on that page, especially all the displayed template values in the boxes.
  • Go to “Options => Similar Posts” and copy all the setting on that page if you want. For the correct display of “Other Related Posts” in Single Post/Page, copy the values for “Text and codes before the list:“, “Text and codes after the list:“, and “Output template:“. (You must have the Plugin Output Cache plugin and Similar Posts plugin activated).
  • Go to “Options => DDFM1” and copy the value in the “Form Structure” box.
  • Go to “Options => HeadSpace“, click on Home Page and choose the TITLE and META DESCRIPTION of your blog page. (This TITLE is the < title > tag that display in the Search Engine Results Page and CAN be different from your “Blog title“).
  • Go to “Options => DDOtherPostsFromCat” and copy EXACTLY all the setting on that page for the “Latest Posts in Current Category” in Single Post/Page to display correctly!
  • Go to “Options => Math Comment Spam” and hit the “Update Option >>” button. YOU MUST HIT THIS BUTTON!
  • Go to “Options => Subscribe to Comments“. If you are using the plugin version that has no setting, just copy all the setting on that page.
  • Go to “Options => Threaded Comments“. These configurations are self-explanatory and configure according to your liking.
  • Go to “Options => DDSitemapGen” and copy all the configuration on there, especially the “Sitemap page slug:” (near the top) and YOUR “Full path to XML sitemap:” (at the bottom).*Note: you should have created the sitemap Wordpress Page as the plugin author had instructed. Visit the Sitemap Generator plugin page for more instructions.
  • Go to “Options => XML-Sitemap” and configure the correct “Location of your sitemap file” and “Sitemap Content” checkboxes. *Note: you must CHMOD the two files “sitemap.xml” and “sitemap.xml.gz” to 777 and store them in either your site root directory or WordPress installed directory. (You can create new files called “sitemap.xml” and “sitemap.xml.gz” and upload them into the discussed directory. Then, you’ll need to verify the correct “Location of your sitemap file“, as stated previously).
