Hi there, my answer to your dilema is that if your blog doesn't need the extra functionality added by the plugins, do not turn on those plugins.
As for SEO, the template is 'mostly' SEOed already. I'll just summarize some of the feature as covering all of it will take more than 1 longggg page
:
1. By my default code, the category pages are excerpted and the tag pages are also excerpted with the SAME content if you didn't input in the meta-tag descriptions to use those as content for the tag pages => using the meta-description for the tag pages' content will reduce your duplicate content percentage. *Note: you will need to activate the Headspace2 plugin to be able to add the meta-description.
2. Once activated, go to “Options => Headspace” and input %%excerpt%% into the 'Description' box and %%tag%% into the 'Keyword' box for “GLOBAL SETTING”. This will auto-generate the meta-description and keyword for your web pages. Of course, you should read the direction on how to use that powerful plugin for your SEO blog too. By the way, it's way better than All-in-one-SEO plugin.
3. And finally the last 2 plugins you want to activate are the add-link-attribute plugin (to add re=”nofollow” to the irrelevant links so your long-tail keywords article page has a higher chance to rank in the SEs) and “Robots-Meta” plugin (you will need to copy its setting as instructed on the Copy Blog).
Anyway, I hope I had answered your question.

P.S. Remember: this template works without any plugin! Activating them will just add extra functionality to the template & WordPress =P.
